Majorca, but not as you may know it

Son Bunyola Hotel & Villas

We’ve recently returned from our fantastic stay at the amazing Son Bunyola Hotel in the rural region of Banyalbufar, Mallorca. The hotel sits within a UNESCO heritage site, and no stone has been left unturned with the recent renovation of the 16th-century finca. The development has been a long time in the making. So much so that Sir Richard Branson originally purchased this stunning building 20 years ago, but in recent years, it was re-acquired and renovated to its current form. The hotel opened its doors in late spring of 2023.

The boutique hotel boasts just 26 bespoke rooms and offers a traditional but modern vibe with its soft but warm décor. I had the pleasure of staying in room 23, which had a walk-in shower and free-standing bathtub overlooking the newly developed Son Bunyola vineyard. Upon entering the lush and vast grounds of the property, you feel like you’ve gone back in time, and you’ll be surrounded by nothing but nature. Son Bunyola is the ideal place for those who want to truly unwind and escape the outside world for a few days. They have an array of wellness services on offer, such as morning yoga, mindfulness classes, a delightful spa, and creative painting (This is a must). There is also hiking on offer. Now, let’s talk cuisine. The food is all locally sourced, and fresh produce is in abundance. Although there is only one restaurant, the head chef showcases a different menu each day and has something to satisfy all tastes. A stay here would be ideal for couples, friends and families. In addition to the hotel, the estate boasts stand-alone villas for larger groups of families and small corporate events.

You may even be lucky enough to stay here while Sir Richard Branson himself may be in the resort. 😊

Gran Hotel Son Net

On the second stop of our whistlestop tour visit to Majorca, I also had the opportunity to spend a night at the stunning Son net Hotel. The hotel, which has recently undergone a refurb and reopened in the summer of 2023, is also part of the Cortesin hotel group. This 16th-century property is ideally located just a 20-minute drive from Palma airport. However, it’s a world away from the beach fronts of Majorca, but close enough should you choose to travel to all the action. Upon arrival, you feel as though you’ve arrived at a fairytale, and it boasts the most amazing landscape. The main pool area overlooks an array of greenery and is like something out of an old fashion movie. They’ve kept in line with their origins, and the décor and grounds are a true reflection of this, boasting that fairytale castle vibe throughout.

We were allocated room 35, which was a charming Junior suite with spectacular views of the resort and in-house vineyard. We even got to sample some of the local wine, which was divine. 😊 One of the standout features is the original fixtures and fittings, which have retained their original character. Son Net also have a state-of-the-art underground spa and wellness centre, which is home to a pretty impressive bathroom, which is just dreamy. It has to be said that the property is one of the most romantic settings to watch the sun rise and set, with either a crisp glass of wine or a coffee to start to the day.

We were lucky enough to be able to sample their tasting menu in their outdoor dining space, and it was truly a magical end to a wonderful day. Son Net is perfectly suited for couples who want to re-ignite their passion, whether it be a celebratory holiday, honeymoon or just a well-deserved break. This fabulous property will not disappoint.

It would be paired beautifully with Son Buyola as a twin centre stay.
