Earlier this year I was lucky enough to travel back to the Maldives, taking my Maldives island count to 14. I am always blown away by it’s beauty and hospitality which can never be portrayed on an image, meaning it must be seen first hand to really appreciate how blue the water is and to feel the powder white sand between your toes. From the moment you arrive at Male Airport your Maldives adventure begins by taking a boat or seaplane to your island, which in itself is very exciting.

There are many opinions and questions that I often hear when people think about this beautiful destination. Every island is unique and needs to be carefully selected depending on the type of traveller you are, if you are travelling with children, prefer to be more active or wish to fly and flop. The larger islands have more activities and facilities for guests to enjoy, including the latest water sports, plenty of dining options, some with large children’s clubs, and complimentary bicycles to explore your island. Being surrounded by water means that you can make the most of the diving sites, take a sunset dolphin tour, plant your own coral, or play with the water toys and kayak or paddle board on the calm waters.

When travelling with children getting the right island is crucial, as there are some excellent islands that cater for the little ones with plenty of activities for them to get stuck into such as nature walks, movies on the beach, treasure hunts, cooking classes. Many islands offer babysitting services so you can still enjoy some quality time together.
